What does teeth whitening involve?

This type of teeth whitening usually requires two visits to our clinic in Brighton. At the first appointment, impressions (moulds) will be made of your teeth to fabricate custom, clear plastic, trays.

How long does the treatment take?

At your second appointment, you will try on the trays for proper fit, and adjustments will be made if necessary. The trays are worn with special whitening solution either twice a day for 30 minutes or overnight for a couple of weeks depending on the degree of staining and desired level of whitening.

Will this treatment hurt?

It is normal to experience tooth sensitivity during the time you are whitening your teeth, but it will subside shortly after you have stopped whitening.nnWe will also offer tips on how to minimise the chance of any sensitivity and each patient will be given an individual guide on how often to use the whitening system.nnSo even if you suffer from sensitivity normally, don’t worry, you can still whiten your teeth! We can create a whitening system that works for you.

How can I care for my teeth after the treatment?

You will receive care instructions for your teeth and trays, and be encouraged to visit our dentist regularly to help maintain a beautiful, healthy, white smile.

Teeth Whitening in Brighton | Preston Circus Dental Practice

Here at Preston Circus Dental Practice in Brighton, our friendly team of dentists offer a simple and effective teeth whitening treatment that will dramatically improve your smile and appearance.

About teeth whitening

Teeth whitening is a simple, non-invasive dental treatment used to change the colour of natural tooth enamel and brighten your smile. Having whiter teeth is one of the most pressing aesthetic concerns of our patients. As such, we offer multiple options for this type of treatment. The most popular method is using a home teeth whitening system that will whiten teeth dramatically.

Since teeth whitening only works on natural tooth enamel, it is important to evaluate the replacement of any old fillings, crowns or similar past dental work. Replacement of any restorations will be done after whitening so they will match the newly whitened teeth.

Teeth whitening is not permanent. A touch-up may be needed every several years, and more often if you smoke, drink coffee, tea, or wine.

Here at PCDP, we proudly use BlancOne© teeth whitening treatments.

Why choose teeth whitening?

Reasons for teeth whitening:

Fluorosis (excessive fluoridation during tooth development).
Normal wear of outer tooth layer.
Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, etc.).
Yellow, brown stained teeth.

If your teeth have become stained or discoloured over time, professional teeth whitening may help you achieve a brighter smile. Preston Circus Dental Practice in Brighton offers teeth whitening options to suit different needs, including home whitening with custom-made trays and professional in-chair whitening with BlancOne.

Your dentist can assess your teeth, discuss the shade you would like to achieve and recommend a suitable approach. The right treatment depends on the cause of the discolouration, your dental health and whether you have existing fillings, crowns or other restorations.

What Is Professional Teeth Whitening?

Professional teeth whitening is a cosmetic dental treatment that uses a whitening agent to lighten the colour of natural teeth. It can help improve the appearance of staining caused by factors such as ageing, food and drink.

At Preston Circus Dental Practice, the available options include home whitening and BlancOne in-chair whitening. During your consultation, the dental team can explain how each method works, the likely treatment process and what results may be realistic for you.

Whitening does not change the colour of crowns, veneers, fillings or other dental restorations, so it is important to discuss any existing dental work before treatment.

What Causes Teeth to Become Discoloured?

Teeth can become stained or darker for several reasons, including:

Food and drink: Tea, coffee and other strongly coloured drinks can contribute to staining.
Smoking: Tobacco can cause visible staining on teeth.
Ageing: Changes to enamel and the underlying tooth structure can affect tooth colour over time.
Certain medications or developmental conditions: Some types of discolouration may be more difficult to treat with whitening alone.
Natural tooth colour: Teeth naturally vary in shade, and not everyone will achieve the same whitening result.

A dental assessment can help establish the likely cause of your discolouration and whether whitening is appropriate.

Teeth Whitening Options at Preston Circus Dental Practice

Home Teeth Whitening

Home whitening uses custom-made trays designed to fit your teeth, together with a professional whitening gel supplied as part of your treatment.

Treatment typically involves two appointments. At the first visit, impressions or scans are taken to make your trays. At the second visit, your dentist checks their fit and explains how to use them.

The trays are worn according to your dentist’s instructions. Depending on the whitening system and your treatment plan, this may involve wearing them for a set period each day or overnight over a period of weeks.

Your dentist will provide guidance on how much gel to use, how often to wear the trays and how to manage any sensitivity.

BlancOne In-Chair Teeth Whitening

BlancOne is a professional whitening system offered at Preston Circus Dental Practice. It provides an in-chair option for patients who would prefer whitening carried out at the practice.

The practice offers different treatment packages, including options combined with an Airflow hygiene clean. Your dentist or hygienist can explain the differences between the available treatments and whether an in-chair option is suitable for you.

Treatment duration and the degree of whitening achieved can vary. Your clinician will explain what to expect before you begin.

What Are the Benefits of Professional Teeth Whitening?

Professional whitening may help you:

Lighten the appearance of stained or discoloured natural teeth.
Improve the brightness of your smile without having veneers or crowns fitted.
Choose between a home whitening system and an in-chair option, where suitable.
Receive advice on treatment, sensitivity and maintaining your results.

Whitening results vary between individuals. Some types of discolouration respond better than others, and your dentist will explain the likely outcome based on your teeth.

Is Teeth Whitening Suitable for Everyone?

Your teeth and gums should be assessed before whitening treatment. Existing tooth decay, gum problems or other dental issues may need attention first.

Whitening can also cause temporary tooth sensitivity or gum irritation. Your dentist can explain how to reduce the risk and what to do if these effects occur.

If you have crowns, veneers or fillings on visible teeth, remember that these restorations will not whiten in the same way as natural enamel. If their colour no longer matches after whitening, replacement may be an option to discuss with your dentist.

How Much Does Teeth Whitening Cost in Brighton?

Preston Circus Dental Practice lists professional teeth whitening at £370. Other whitening options are priced separately, including packages that combine Airflow hygiene treatment with BlancOne whitening.

The published fees include:

Teeth whitening: £370.
Airflow with BlancOne Click whitening: £195.
Airflow with BlancOne Touch whitening: £489.

Please confirm the current price, what each package includes and whether any additional treatment is needed before booking.

How Can You Maintain Your Whitening Results?

The longevity of your results depends on your teeth, habits and oral hygiene routine. To help maintain a brighter smile:

Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste.
Clean between your teeth daily.
Attend regular dental check-ups and hygiene appointments as advised.
Be mindful of frequent exposure to staining foods and drinks.
Avoid smoking, which can contribute to staining.
Only use whitening gel and trays according to your dentist’s instructions.

Teeth whitening is not permanent, and further treatment may be needed in the future. Your dental team can advise you on suitable maintenance.
